What is Activation?

Also called the activation play, outbound-let-inbound.

Activation is the Demand Compass motion that serves In-Market and Sales-Ready accounts: when the Signal Radar catches an aware account starting to react on either axis, the team moves fast, with the why-now attached, and converts it; it is the only motion that converts, and the one most teams skip.

Activation is the payoff of the system. Three motions develop awareness and none of them convert; Activation is the fourth, and the only one that does. When the Signal Radar catches an aware account starting to react, on either axis, you close it fast. It serves the two ready quadrants. In Sales-Ready the owner is an account executive, the channel is personal and direct, and the clock is minutes to hours, because a competitor is about to notice. In In-Market the owner is usually an SDR, the window is open and short, and speed beats polish, because next week the shortlist is drawn. That is the easiest deal you will run, and the system exists to produce more of them.

Two rules shape the play. The signal informs the message; it does not appear in it. Let a new role or a funding round tell you which problem to open on and lead with that problem, never with the fact that you saw them, because naming the signal makes a stranger sound like they have been watching. And the why-now travels with the account: a rep who can read the three dated reasons an account is hot will work it, while a rep handed a bare number rejects it the way reps rejected the MQL. An opener built this way has pulled replies near thirty percent on LinkedIn where a cold qualified touch sits around seventeen.

The thing teams get wrong is skipping it. A team comes back from a conference with three hundred and forty badge scans and two weeks later has worked forty-seven, roughly fourteen percent of what it caught, while the warm window closes. Activation is also continuous: a closed account stays in Nurture, watched, and when a new signal fires, Activation runs again to expand.
