What is TAM coverage?

Also called market coverage, addressable-market coverage.

TAM coverage is the share of a company's total addressable market that its demand engine actually touches, mapped as named accounts with signals attached, as opposed to the fraction a team reaches when lists are pulled by hand and the rest of the market is never mapped at all.

TAM coverage is the number that hides the cost of a hand-built demand engine. Every week your outreach depends on someone pulling a list by hand, you are working a fraction of your real market. When we assess a team, most are actively touching fifteen to twenty percent of their addressable market. The other eighty percent is not missing because the buyers are not there. It is missing because nobody ever mapped it. Meanwhile most SDR teams spend around sixty percent of their time on research and list-building, production work a system should have removed.

On the Demand Compass, coverage is one of the two things that determine results on the readiness axis, the other being speed. Because you cannot manufacture readiness, a signal you do not capture is a window you do not see, and capture has to run across your whole market, not just the fifth you have already mapped. The Market Map exists for this: map the full addressable market as accounts first, then hang signals on it as they arrive, so an in-market account new to you lands on a company you had already identified instead of floating as an orphan. In the ninety-day install, mapping the addressable market as accounts happens in the first thirty days, alongside the first sensor, so the signals have somewhere to land.

What made full coverage affordable is that per-account research, which used to cost a person an hour no matter how good they were, now costs minutes and pennies with AI. That turns researching the handful of accounts you can get to into researching the entire market, continuously. One client captured the overwhelming majority of its addressable market inside three months, enrichment running automatically.
